Dorma Bungalow to Replace a Delapidated Bungalow

Our client was living in a small detached bungalow near Stockton Brook, which had a number of structural defects, and also needed rewiring and modernisation.

The dwelling was built at the top of a hillside overlooking the road. Heavy rain had recently washed away the front garden together with the boundary wall exposing the existing foundations, and work was underway building a retaining wall to the front to prevent any slippage. The existing dwelling had been extended to the maximum, but was still quite small, and the cost of repairs and modernising was comparable with those of demolition and rebuild.

Securing the planning permission was a difficult exercise because the Planner was objected to altering the skyline, despite the proposed Bungalow being situated between two storey houses. The site itself was quite constrained due to high elevation.
