Front Porch Extension

Our clients approached DBD Architectural Consultancy to enlarge an existing porch extension on a property they were in the process of purchasing.

They wanted the new porch to be two storey to incorporate an ensuite bathroom serving the master bedroom. We were also asked to redesign a loft conversion to maximise the space available, where currently they only had about a square metre of walking space without stooping.

One of the challenges with most extensions is sourcing a brick to match the existing, with this house, the garage had been extended and the bricks were a mismatch, unfortunately getting a reasonable match was proving difficult so we decided to try a contrasting render finish, DBD produced a 3D image to convince our client and the planning department that it would work. The garage was also rendered to match.

The loft was re-modelled to have a flat roof, an existing purlin at mid height level was replaced with a steel frame similar to a goal post but with sloping legs to match the pitch of the roof. The result is a decent sized bedroom with space for a double bed, and a couch, with space to walk around comfortably.
