Taxi Control
Conversion of a former transport training office into a taxi control centre with living accommodation
The building was last used for a training facility for the theory tuition to heavy goods vehicles drivers and had been empty in excess of five years. Our client approached DBD who had been operating a taxi business in Leek and was looking to expand the business by having more Hackney cabs and more importantly Private Hire taxi’s. Private Hire licensing regulations only allow one private hire vehicle to be registered at a household address. My client needed a commercial address with adequate parking to register the vehicles at, without being too large for the call centre , which technically only requires an office with a phone line and a radio system to call the drivers.
The building itself was too large for this purpose, so an application was submitted to Staffordshire Moorlands for a split use of the building, half of which is for residential for use by an employee of the business, and the remainder is for the taxi control centre
